Catholics conserving nature and protecting life.™
The Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Conservation Center works as a Catholic faith-based land trust to conserve land
and water for public benefit, including nature preserves, parks, forests, wetlands, gardens, farms, and
religiously-owned land. To this end, the Center may purchase or accept donations of conservation easements
and real property with important conservation values, or may assist with the protection and stewardship of
such easements and land.
The Center focuses on protecting religiously-owned land from secularization and haphazard development,
and protecting land and water that serve people who are poor, either materially or spiritually. This includes
protecting Catholic pilgrimage, religious, and heritage sites.
We perform works of charity and provide technical services in the fields of human and natural ecology,
natural resources planning, land protection and stewardship, geographic information systems (GIS),
agriculture, pollution and climate change, and environmental justice.
We assist Catholic institutions and religious communities, not-for-profit organizations, local communities,
landowners, and local stakeholders with the protection and stewardship of important land and water
resources. We work with religious communities to prevent religiously-owned conservation land from being
converted to secular land, and to assist religious communities with on-going land stewardship. We are
currently making plans for our initial land protection and stewardship projects.
While secular conservation groups promote sustainable development, we reach further to promote authentic
development. Authentic development refers to the development of people as whole persons and as valued
members of society, living in harmony with each other and with nature. Numerous social conditions impact
our ability to reach our full potential, including the right to life, family founded on the marriage of a man and
a woman, clean air and water, renewable energy, healthful ecosystems, biological diversity, environmental
justice, and the right to seek and to know God. Authentic development encourages a balanced view of
human progress that is consistent with respect for nature and with a genuine understanding of the order and
beauty of creation.
We seek to foster an “integral ecology” that recognizes the relationship between authentic human
development, concern for the poor, and responsibility for the environment.
We’re just getting started with the land protection aspects of our work. With your prayers and support,
together we can help bring about the “ecological conversion” called for by Saint John Paul II. ” The
ecological conversion needed to bring about lasting change is also a community conversion.
If you are interested in exploring conservation options for your land, please feel free to call or email us. a
call. There is also a contact form on our “Contact Us” page. We’d love to speak with you. We can discuss
with you your land conservation options, and later if you wish, help you to plan and bring together the right
people to meet your needs.
